Ezra Stoller – John Hancock Center
The John Hancock Center was one of the tallest buildings of its time. And Ezra Stoller also emphasizes the size of this tall building in his photograph, the building stretches as if it touches the roof of the sky. Although there are not many deep layers on the facade, the reflections of the light in the black and white photograph enable the materials on the facade of the building to be stripped and stratified. In my cut-fold work, I tried to emphasize these material differences with colors and to make the depths of the steel on the facade even more clear by folding. In this way, we can perceive the tectonics on the facade better. Especially with the layers coming together, we can perceive the building better not only in the vertical lines but also in the horizontal lines. When the shadows are added, the separation of the layers becomes even more noticeable.
