Drawing is an act of exploration. You start with a drawing surface, mark making materials, and an intention. Then the process of drawing takes its own course of becoming. The materials interact, transform and deform. The marks you make accumulate, cover or reveal, and gain a tactility. Drawing is an act of seeing with. While drawing, you slow down, stop and observe. You have time to contemplate. Drawing is the very site wherein something unknown or unplanned for might occur. Through drawing you imagine. Every drawing has its own story. Here, we are interested in these stories, each week we start with a provocative act of drawing and allow ourselves to learn from the process of it. We will question our preconditioned and unintentional habits of drawing, try drawing in various “other” ways, explore the outcomes when a drawing meets a site with its material and immaterial properties, and at times experiment with the role and position of the drawer. At the end of the term, the students are expected to gain technical and intellectual skills on the practices of drawing.
