In drawings we usually use darkness to distinguish light. We see what reflects the light so that when we trace the light on paper by erasing we can decide where it will hit and create a surface. When that light source changes, weakens, moves, space also changes. It’s like looking to someones face while the light is coming from the ceiling and looking at the same face while the light source is under the chin.
