week9-engraving

drawing no: 9

Scratching with different tools and hand movements allowed me to express varying textures of the roofs and openings. By scratching the openings over a dark surface created a feeling of glow, as if the light is not coming from the exterior context but from inside the spaces. The changing directions and the planar shift of the volumes produce a sequential vista on the elongated perspective. Thus the repetitive textures along the paper surface suddenly gains a new level of depth as the viewer from the tower lay their eyes on the horizon. Yet, one thing I should’ve considered better was the dominance level of the volumes in the background but it seems like I didn’t include the pressure of my scratch enough to highlight this.
