I only used one tool, a credit card, to scratch the drawing, but I used the its different edges to create different textures and planes.  I used its corners to create narrow spaces, while using its sides to get bigger planes and smoother surfaces. It was easier to apply pressure with sides and therefore the light conditions are better at those places. They look brighter. I also use different directions to scratch different planes, so that they do not look alike and mix with each other. It was easy to mix them up because of the tight placement of the houses, so I had to be careful about it.

With scratching at different planes, I used all of them, vertical, horizontal and oblique, I could get a picture. I do not think that I could create a drawing like this if I only used one-way scratching. This sharp tool allowed me to create surface on the black background and the background also represents the empty spaces and no-light situations and helps to separate surfaces from each other.
