“Aún aprendo” (1826). Francisco de Goya.
Before his death in neo-classical Bordeaux in 1828, one of his final self-portraits was a small print of an elderly, long-bearded man hunched over two canes. In the top left corner of the print, one finds the words “Aún aprendo”, closely translated to English as “Still, I learn.” He was still learning and improving into his old age… And you, aún aprendes?
“First sketch is the main idea, second sketch is ideas.”
”Sketching, because of its inherent conciseness, is therefore a notational system characterized by quickness.”
